Oh, what a difference an “O” can make!
Macaroons and Macarons. What’s the difference? Aren’t they the same cookie?
I’ve heard those two questions a few times. And I’m here to tell you that one little “o” can make a world of difference in a cookie.
A Macaronis a French cookie, and is very different from a Macaroon. A French Macaron is a delectable little almond cookie which has a light, thin yet crunchy outside, and is more like cake on the inside. You usually take two of these cookies, and “glue” them together with a bit of chocolate ganache. French Macarons are far more complicated and difficult to make than a Macaroon.
Macaroons are typically made with coconut and are baked until the outside of the cookie is actually a bit crunchy. The middle does remain soft, but basically, it’s a coconut cookie.
So there’s your vocabulary lesson for today kids!
Happy Baking!
